THE NEW WORLD COMMUNITY

Grades 1-3

The New World Community serves children in grades 1-3.

In the New World Community, children become actively social and begin to think abstractly. Daily work is primarily self-directed with the guide offering small group or individual guidance followed by long periods of independent and collaborative work time within a mixed age cohort (6-9 years). Through careful observation, guides outline a developmentally appropriate individual education plan for each student that ensures emotional, social, and academic well-being.

At Crossway, the traditional Montessori methods and materials are utilized in our extensive outdoor space, demonstrating the interconnectedness of all things as the natural world is incorporated into subject matter like geography, biology, history, language, arithmetic, and geometry. We will build off of these concepts to explore and discuss stories of how the universe was formed, how humans evolved, and how we meet our needs through communication. Additionally, art, music, physical fitness, and grace and courtesy are pillars of a Cosmic Education, promoting well roundedness in students. Our broad educational approach aims to cultivate children that are global citizens, peacemakers, and stewards of the environment.
